Locations are no longer popular simply by being geographically central; they also need to be socially meaningful. “Location, location, location” – the mantra for any profitable activity – is being replaced by “Communication, communication, communication”.
A place is no longer present because we see it with the naked eye, but rather if it has a strong presence and popularity in the media.To map and study the invisible relations between people and the city, we propose a view that puts the perceptible and physical spaces on par using social media data. The concept of “metamorphology” communicates this novel understanding in the fields of spatial analysis, planning and urban studies, establishing a relation between space, activities and values.
