I was invited give a presentation to the Finnish Ministry of Environment and his delegation to display the results of my research at Tampere University of Technology on metaMorphology. The talk was designed to show the methodology I developed to study urban trends in Finland and rise awareness on the phase of decay in the diversity of activities available in Helsinki in comparison to other European capital cities.
On October the 6th I will give a talk in Offenbach at the Bend Make Change festival. In my presentation I will extend the debate we recently had in London at Data Obscura and open a debate on social media data and the city.
I will take part in Data Obscura, the Signal Noise opening panel debate in London. Signal Noise, the data design studio forming part of The Economist Group, explores the relationship between data and truth in a four-day ‘Data Obscura’ exhibition, launching with a panel event chaired by The Economist’s senior editor, Kenneth Cukier.
In my talk I presented the general concept of metaMorphology, some insights from my research at Tampere University of Technology and selected works from the metaMorphology Lab of Tampere, Tallinn and St. Petersburg. Here you can read more if you can read Finnish.
I originally designed this map as Christmas present but the underlaying data was eventually used for research purposes. The map contains all the valuable natural areas of Finland, combining datasets from Finnish environmental agencies and open geo data.
I recently co-authored an article that show how Foursquare data can be used to map the availability of human activities, their frequency, variety and popularity.
